Michael Jackson is officially a baritone, yet his singing range contains the full tenor and countertenor registers too. His voice also encompasses almost the complete soprano and bass realms, flaunting a remarkable 3 1/4-octave range.
While he famously used a soft, relatively high speaking voice in public, he reserved his naturally deep speaking register solely for his personal life and professional interactions.
As time went on he gravitated towards a mid-range speaking voice in public, yet he never once slipped up and used his deep voice (as far as we have researched, please let us know if we are wrong about that).
He wasn’t simply “faking his voice”. He used part of his huge vocal range in public, protectively, performatively. While we haven’t been shown all of his range, that was the part he was comfortable with showing.
